BuzzBadge to Video LAN Client (VLC)

Have you come across video or audio files that are in the form of .BIN, .CUE or .PUB? Those are files use for the burning of VCD and DVD. You will get those files types most often than not if you are downloading torrent.

In order to play video that ends with .BIN, .CUE, and .PUB, you need a software to mount that image onto your hard disk so that the the ordinary video players such as Windows Media Player will assume it is reading from a VCD or DVD.

However, here is a better way. Instead of mounting, why not play it directly? Yes you can! With Video LAN Client!

You can download Video LAN Client. It is free, as it is an open source development. After downloading and installing Video LAN Client, you can straight away play whatever types of media files, you name it. It is so useful that it becomes my primary video player now. (although I still use WMP to play mp3s)

Here is a list of all formats that VLC supports.

BuzzBadge To BitTyrant - Better Download Speed!

I know this will interest you. Many of us are BitTorrent fans. Downloading torrent is addictive. Ok. I have been using quite some bittorrent client now. The best I found was Azureus, an open source bittorrent client which is fast in terms of download speed.

Now here is a better one! It is called BitTyrant! Believe it or not, it has been downloaded heavily in the past week because it was digged!

BitTyrant is based on the open source version of Azureus. Quoting them:

"BitTyrant is a new, protocol compatible BitTorrent client that is optimized for fast download performance. BitTyrant is...

  • Fast – During evaluation testing on more than 100 real BitTorrent swarms, BitTyrant provided an average 70% download performance increase when compared to the existing Azureus 2.5 implementation, with some downloads finishing more than three times as quickly.
  • Fair – BitTorrent was designed with incentives in mind: if a user is downloading at 30 KBps, they should upload at 30 KBps. However, due to the unique workload properties of many real-world swarms, this is not always enforced. BitTyrant is designed to make efficient use of your scarce upload bandwidth, rewarding those users whose upload allocations are fair and only allocating excess capacity to other users.
  • Familiar – BitTyrant is based on modifications to Azureus 2.5, currently the most popular BitTorrent client. All of our changes are under the hood. You’ll find the GUI identical to Azureus, with optional additions to display statistics relevant to BitTyrant’s operation.
When I got to know about this new release, I downloaded it, found some torrents and tried it out. To my amazement, it was REAL fast! I can finish a 1.2 GB download within 2 days! How good can it be?

Try it out for yourself. Today's BuzzBadge goes to BitTyrant!
